Often I am in the zone, at one with my hands, my tool and the wood and my vision of what is being created. I breathe in the fumes of varnish and glue. My brain grows toxic. And still I continue, for I love the living wood with which I work. The material with which I work has so many different qualities and textures. Each piece like an individual that I come to know and respect. I am your carpenter. Have you ever contemplated the different qualities of wood? Coming from a tree that gave up its life to serve you. Some woods are gentle, easy to work with, fragile almost. Some are so strong, you would think they were metal, and are used for those things you wish to last forever. I, the carpenter, honor wood and the trees they come from. Did you know oak from the northwest has a different feel to it than oak from Australia?
